Why I'm braving a 6,000 metre climb

Chris Stappleton, 25, of Wrexham, will be ascending Mount Kilimanjaro in order to raise money for CAIS.

CAIS is a registered charity and leading voluntary sector provider of drug and alcohol services in Wales.

It helps people who are having problems with their alcohol or drug use, as well as offering support and information to their families and friends.

Chris said: “Since receiving support from CAIS my stress and anxiety levels have reduced considerably.

“I have not felt this healthy and positive for a very long time. I have also given up smoking and keep fit through gym work and road running.

“This July I am climbing Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania, something I never thought would ever be possible for me to achieve.

“Part of my motivation for taking on this challenge is to raise awareness of the help and support that CAIS can offer.”

During 2013 CAIS are trying to raise funds for an innovative new peer mentoring service Change Step.

The new service is delivered by veterans for veterans and aims to support those seeking help for problems encountered as a result of military or operational duty.

The programme will offer peer support and training opportunities, as well as counselling and detoxification from drugs or alcohol where required.
